I promise you, it’s not a curse. Think of it more as having an extra long Wanzzit antenna that picks up all sorts of signals everyone else misses-we’ll talk later about how you can cherish that sensitivity and profit from it.
For example: You are at a bustling party. Music blares, lights flash around-the whole bit. For most people it’s exhilarating. For you, on the other hand, it’s as if fielding an Orkan invasion with no umbrella. That can mean retreating into solitude along with a good book or even stepping into nature during midnight walks where all one hears are the songbirds chirping away.
By the way, have you ever noticed how calming nature walks are? There’s something about trees and fresh air that seems to help just pick a frazzled soul up and set it right. Even if forests aren’t available, houseplants often work wonders. Besides, they don’t mind if you sing to them either!
Now onto relationships, a tricky terrain for anyone yet especially an HSP. They feel emotions intensely and deeply. Have you been told in an argument: “You’re too sensitive”? It’s like being poked with hot needles! In this case communicating your needs becomes an essential; make sure that people know when words are causing more harm than intended. However, here’s one more trick too: Boundaries are your best friends! At least in my mind they serve as invisible fences guarding the peace from invaders who might not be aware that some places make you tire out much faster than others do
It has not been mentioned yet that I also do meditation. No need to bend oneself into a knot or use ancient mantras (unless this is what you like). Just look for quiet amidst the uproar–a few minutes spent concentrating on the breath can do wonders for stilling tempests within
And humour. – Never underestimate it! Laughter really is the best medicine; there are now even scientific studies to prove this. So watch comedies or read funny books whenever life seems a bit heavy-handed in its demands
Getting professional help is sometimes invaluable–there are therapists who have been specifically trained to deal with sensitivity issues, and they can provide insights that friends might overlook (despite their best intentions). because, let’s be honest here: they’re not the ones walking around in our skin each day!
Finally, though it may seem most important of all—it really is nothing wrong at all to be deeply sensitive or see subtleties others do not begin to fathom; this makes life richer if a bit more difficult at times. Yet after all, better that way isn’t it? Who wants a bland existence
If we’re overly sensitive it isn’t to be changed but found right where we fit best into this great tapestry of life while yet remaining sane at every turn. embracing our own distinct peculiar nature with every step forward taken courageously.
